How to find art you love. Elemental signs AIR & WATER
This is so awesome. I freakin love talking about this! Mostly because I have had so many people complain to me that they don't know where to start with art and decorating their home. I've thought about it for so many years and I'm realizing this elemental sign thing is the very best place to start as far as art MEANING SOMETHING to you and making you feel the way we want art to make us feel! I feel like when we gain answers to why we are a certain way, and why things mean so much to us, it can give us a lot of power! If you missed my overview you can get up to speed here. This week I'm going to break down the AIR and WATER signs. You'll want to read all of these. Because knowing what turns the crank for our spouse, partner, children, parents, and best friends is an amazing and powerful tool!!
Air Libra - Sept 23 - Oct 22 Aquarius -Jan 20 - Feb 18 Gemini - May 21 - June 20
As you might imagine, Air signs love to be outside, or in large open spaces. They are also idea people. They can breeze into a situation and offer a fresh perspective. Their currency is ideas, and have an innate curiosity. Air relates to the sky, clouds, wind, the weather, sails, kites, and mountain peaks. If you are an air sign, keep this in mind when you are looking at art. Clean design, nothing too busy. Air signs are the type that will love an image with not a lot going on in it! A big clear sky will feel really good to look at. Also anything that feels spacious, because Air signs don't want to feel caged in.
This is also helpful in designing your home! White space, natural light, nothing too cluttered. Most Air signs I know really need to be outside as much as possible. So keep your space as clean and uncluttered as possible. You won't want to fill every corner. Big windows and high ceilings will mean a lot to you. And you won't need to fill every inch of the wall. Give your art room to breathe.
Another interesting thing about Air signs is because they are such good communicators, they are usually super social and good with people. They like to be in the know and up with current events and pop culture. This can be fun to think about with art. Pop art will probably appeal to an Air sign, as well as images with people in them. People give life and energy to a photograph. It helps us imagine ourselves there with them.
Water Cancer -June 21 - July 22 Scorpio - Oct 23 - Nov 21 Pisces - Feb 19 - March 20
Like I mentioned in the intro last week, I am a Water sign and it has explained many things for me. I always thought it was so weird how obsessed I am with pools. And how soothing I find images of water. I find them mesmerizing. When we moved into our new house and were deciding what to do in our gigantic stairwell, we had 2 ideas to decide between: wallpaper of our latest vacation to Oahu and the water that was the most amazing combo of colors I have EVER seen. Or having a graffiti artist come tag the whole thing. It was a tough call! Because the graffiti thing sounds super rad!! In the end we asked ourselves how we want to feel in our home, which I encourage everyone to do! Jeff is an Air sign and I am Water. Jeff likes big open scenes that balance and bring the outside in, I need dreamy escapes to recharge and get away. The wallpaper was a total slam dunk. We freakin love it and it makes us both feel amazing every time we see it. Honestly I think we were only considering the graffiti for the cool factor. But it would have been totally jarring and like an assault every day. Knowledge is powerful! I'm so glad we have this way of tapping into our psyche like this.
More about Water signs. They are intuitive, emotional and imaginative. They are attuned to emotion and have special sensitivity. They absorb vibes from others and need to maintain personal boundaries. So images that help restore and bring you back to a calm space are ideal. This is why images of actual water feel so good. Water is one of the most soothing and transportive elements on the planet. Even if you aren't a Water sign, water is soothing. It's just that we Water signs need to be soothed a bit more than others. And the funny thing is with Water signs, something that calms us can actually be invigorating! So don't shy away from all of this if you think you need a pick me up. When we Water signs feel soothed, that is how we get our energy back.
This is so helpful to keep in mind when decorating your home or office or anywhere you spend time. Embrace the Water sign in you. Give it a try! Try putting an image like this as the first thing you see when you walk into your home.
I love to have this image of a swimmer in my bathroom to stare at as I shower, brush my teeth, or take a bath. It puts me in such a good frame of mind. It's exactly what I need for some reason. Instead of fighting my Water obsession, I just embrace it and I encourage anyone to do the same! I think you will be amazed at how the imagery makes you feel. I think what art can do for us is make little moments in our day. Little moments that speak to us, that matter, that ground us, that remind us of why we do what we do! Why not have more meaning? Why not try to make every aspect of our lives as beautiful and powerful as possible?
As you may have heard, Art Fare now has an online Shop! Any of my images in this post are linked directly to the shop, because if you love something you see here, I think you should have it!
